How to Put a Silicone Cover on a PS5 Controller (Easy 30-Second Guide)
Share
Putting a silicone cover on your PS5 DualSense controller looks tricky the first time. It's not. The silicone is made to stretch, and once you know the right order, it takes about 30 seconds. Here's the easy way to do it, without stressing about tearing it.
What you need
- Your PS5 DualSense controller (turned off is easier, but not required)
- Your silicone controller cover
- Optional: thumb grips and a touchpad sticker
Step 1: Start with the left grip
Hold the cover open with both hands and slide the left grip of your controller all the way into the left side of the cover. Think of it like putting on pants: one leg at a time. Don't try to fit the whole controller in at once.
Step 2: Stretch it over the right grip
Pull the cover over the top of the controller, then stretch it around the right grip. This is the part where people get nervous. Good silicone stretches a lot more than you think, so pull firmly and evenly. It snaps back into shape once it's on.
Step 3: Line up the buttons and ports
Press around the edges with your fingers until every opening lines up: triggers, bumpers, touchpad, the light bar, the USB-C port and the charging contacts. A cover made for the DualSense leaves all of them open, so you can play and charge normally.
Step 4: Add your thumb grips and sticker
Push the thumb grips straight down onto the sticks until they sit flat. If you have a touchpad sticker, clean the touchpad first, then press the sticker on from the center outward to avoid bubbles.
Quick tips
- Can't get the right side on? Take it off and start again from the left grip, pushing it in deeper.
- Charging dock: make sure the cover sits flat around the bottom contacts so the controller clicks into the dock.
- Cleaning: take the cover off and wipe it with a damp cloth. Let it dry before putting it back on.
